Il progetto Abyssian nasce nel 2010 per volontà di Roberto Messina, ex membro e fondatore dei Sinoath.
Dopo aver esplorato agli esordi con i Sinoath un sound vicino al Black/Doom Metal e successivamente piùprossimo al Dark/Doom, Roberto riprende, dopo anni di inattività, un songwriting che mantiene le medesimecoordinate, ma con un'ambientazione di matrice più atlantidea. Gli Abyssian si contraddistinguono infatti per una ricerca sonora e tematica legata all'immaginario relativo a civiltà sommerse, antichi alieni e rimandi alla poetica sumera riguardanti la creazione del mondo.
Nel 2012, da one-man band, gli Abyssian diventano un duo con l'arrivo di Francesco De Francisco, che si occupa della chitarra ritmica e del drum programming nel progetto. Nel 2014 esce, in edizione limitata, The Realm of Commorion, che contiene la title track, Neanderthal Sands e No Place for the heart. Dopo l'uscita dell'EP, è la volta dell'arrivo di Vincenzo Arienti al basso e, successivamente, di Riccardo Ligresti alla batteria. Nonostante l'arricchimento della formazione, alcune parti di drum machine resteranno volutamente presenti all'interno dei brani.
Nel 2016 esce l'album di esordio Nibiruan Chronicles, che contiene 9 brani, includendo una reissue dei 3 brani dell'EP. L'album viene distribuito dapprima in formato digitale da Visionaire Rec., poi anche in formato fisico CD dalla Violet Nebula Productions.
Nel 2018 Riccardo viene sostituito da Daniele Ferru (ex Holy Martyr, successivamente impegnato anche nei Drakkar e nei Tethra).
Con la nuova formazione viene pubblicato nel febbraio 2021 Godly, il secondo album. Composto da 8 brani inediti, si focalizza maggiormente su tematiche mistico-religiose anche di matrice cristiana, mantenendo come filo conduttore l'ipotetico legame con civiltà antiche ed aliene e sottese suggestioni più intime ed esistenziali. L'album viene distribuito sulle piattaforme digitali da Revalve Records, e prodotto in formato fisico, ancora una volta, dalla Violet Nebula Productions.
Per promuovere i nuovi brani, oltre alle attività live, viene pubblicato un videoclip del brano "As The Sun", che incarna il connubio tra gli elementi più doom e oscuri con quelli più melodici presenti lungo tutto Godly. Nel 2021 la formazione si arricchisce ulteriormente con l'arrivo di Umberto Vono come lead vocalist. Umberto riesce rapidamente a fare suoi i brani precedentemente registrati portandoli live in diverse esibizioni. Nel 2024 si concretizzano i nuovi brani con Umberto alla voce, che andranno a comporre il nuovo Let me die under the stars, in uscita nel 2026.

The Abyssian project was born in 2010 by Roberto Messina, former member and founder of Sinoath.
After exploring a sound close to Black/Doom Metal and later closer to Dark/Doom in his early days with Sinoath, Roberto, after years of inactivity, resumed songwriting that maintains the same coordinates, but with a more Atlantean feel.
Abyssian are in fact distinguished by a sonic and thematic research linked to the imagery relating to submerged civilizations, ancient aliens and references to Sumerian poetics regarding the creation of the world.
In 2012, Abyssian transformed from a one-man band into a duo with the arrival of Francesco De Francisco, who took on rhythm guitar and drum programming. In 2014, the limited edition The Realm of Commorion was released, containing the title track, "Neanderthal Sands," and "No Place for the Heart."
After the EP's release, Vincenzo Arienti joined on bass, followed by Riccardo Ligresti on drums. Despite the expanded lineup, some drum machine parts were intentionally retained in the songs.
In 2016, their debut album, Nibiruan Chronicles, was released, containing nine tracks, including a reissue of three tracks from the EP. The album was initially distributed digitally by Visionaire Rec., and then also on CD by Violet Nebula Productions.
In 2018, Riccardo was replaced by Daniele Ferru (formerly of Holy Martyr, who later also worked with Drakkar and Tethra).
With the new lineup, their second album, Godly, was released in February 2021. Consisting of eight previously unreleased tracks, it focuses more on mystical-religious themes, including those of a Christian nature, while maintaining a common thread—the hypothetical connection to ancient and alien civilizations and underlying more intimate and existential suggestions. The album is distributed on digital platforms by Revalve Records, and produced in physical format, once again, by Violet Nebula Productions.
To promote the new songs, in addition to live performances, a music video for "As The Sun" was released, which embodies the combination of doom and darkness with the more melodic elements present throughout Godly. In 2021, the lineup was further enriched with the arrival of Umberto Vono as lead vocalist. Umberto quickly made the previously recorded songs his own, performing them live at several shows. In 2024, new songs featuring Umberto on vocals were released, which would form the new album Let Me Die Under the Stars, due out in 2026.
