In Italia, negli anni '70, la televisione di Stato (l'unica disponibile, non esistevano ancora altri canali) intratteneva gli spettatori serali
con sceneggiati in più puntate che spesso trattavano temi cupi, esoterici, misteriosi, fantascientifici o addirittura horror. All'epoca, i
programmi televisivi erano solo in bianco e nero, e questo accresceva ulteriormente l'atmosfera arcana di quelle fiction televisive
che nel tempo sono diventate veri e propri classici di culto. Qualche nome? Gamma (1975), Ritratto di donna velata (1975), Il segno
del comando (1971), La traccia verde (1975), L’amaro caso della baronessa di Carini (1975), A come Andromeda (1972) e altre ancora.
Molti anni più tardi un gruppo di musicisti (che all'epoca di questi sceneggiati erano bambini e li ricordano ancora oggi con un misto
di fascinazione e inquietudine) si riunisce sotto il marchio L'Ombra della Sera, dal nome della statuetta etrusca mostrata in Ritratto
di donna velata. Ma chi è davvero L’Ombra della Sera? Si tratta in realtà de La Maschera di Cera, formazione di rock progressivo
italiano attiva dal 2001 e molto amata dagli appassionati del genere, con sei album in studio all’attivo e un’intensa attività
concertistica in tutto il mondo.
Da sempre affascinata da queste serie televisive, La Maschera di Cera ha deciso di creare l'alter ego L'Ombra della Sera per rendere
omaggio alle splendide sigle composte da maestri come Enrico Simonetti, Riz Ortolani, Berto Pisano e altri. I temi originali sono stati
rielaborati e arricchiti di nuove atmosfere e spunti musicali, con un’impronta progressive che richiama la scuola dark/gotica dei
Van der Graaf Generator, alcune pagine dei King Crimson, i sinfonismi dei Genesis e la grande tradizione del prog italiano degli
anni Settanta. Il tutto si intreccia con suggestioni cameristiche, psichedeliche, jazz e perfino funky, in un omaggio personale e ricco
di sfumature. La band ha inoltre arricchito il suo arsenale di strumentazione vintage con sintetizzatori e string-machines dell’epoca.
Il risultato è un doppio album intitolato Segreti nel Nero, che Black Widow Records pubblicherà il 29 marzo 2026, in concomitanza
con la presentazione dal vivo alla Claque di Genova. Tra le sigle rielaborate, il disco contiene anche un'ulteriore chicca: la colonna
sonora di uno sceneggiato mai realizzato, tratto dal romanzo maledetto di Giorgio De Maria Le venti giornate di Torino (1977). Del
progetto, abbandonato prima di vedere la luce, restavano soltanto pochi frammenti di girato e alcuni temi musicali composti da un
misterioso autore di cui nel tempo si sono perse le tracce. Grazie a un accurato lavoro di ricerca d’archivio, l’Ombra della Sera è
riuscita a recuperare gli spartiti originali, rielaborandoli in una lunga e suggestiva suite.
Segreti nel Nero sarà pubblicato in doppio vinile e in singolo CD, e in edizione limitata deluxe 2LP+CD.

In Italy, during the 1970s, the state television (the only one available; no other channels existed yet) used to entertain evening
viewers with multi-part fiction that often dealt with dark, esoteric, mysterious, science fiction, or even outright horror themes. At
the time, television were only in black and white, and this further enhanced the arcane mood of that tv fiction that over time have
become true cult classics. The most famous series were Gamma (1975), Ritratto di donna velata (Portrait of a veiled woman, 1975),
Il segno del comando (The sign of command, 1971), La traccia verde (The green trail, 1975), L'amaro caso della baronessa di Carini
(The bitter case of the baroness of Carini, 1975), A come Andromeda (A for Andromeda, 1972), and more. One of the hallmarks of
these series were the theme songs that introduced it, composed by masters of Italian soundtracks such as Enrico Simonetti, Riz
Ortolani, Berto Pisano, and others.
Many years later, a group of musicians (who were children at the time of these dramas and still remember them with a mixture of
fascination and anxiety) reunited under the name L'Ombra della Sera (The shadow of the evening), from the name of the mysterious
Etruscan statuette depicted in Ritratto di donna velata. But who really is L'Ombra della Sera? They are, in fact, La Maschera di Cera,
Italian progressive rock band active since 2001 and much loved by fans of the genre, with six studio albums and an intense concert
schedule worldwide.
La Maschera di Cera decided to create the alter ego L'Ombra della Sera to pay homage to some of these tv fiction and their beautiful
theme songs, that have been reworked and enriched with a progressive feel that recalls the dark/gothic school of Van der Graaf
Generator, some King Crimson, the symphonic elements of Genesis, and the great tradition of 70s Italian prog. All this is
intertwined with chamber, psychedelic, jazz, and even funky influences, in a personal and nuanced homage. The band has also
enriched its arsenal of vintage instrumentation with synthesizers and string machines from the era.
The result is a double album titled Segreti nel Nero (Secret in black), which Black Widow Records will release on March 29, 2026,
to coincide with the live performance at the Claque in Genoa. Among the reworked themes, the album also contains another gem:
the soundtrack to an unproduced TV series based on Giorgio De Maria's cursed novel, Le Venti giornate di Torino (The twenty days
of Turin, 1977). The project, abandoned before it saw the light of day, left only a few fragments of footage and some musical themes
composed by a mysterious composer whose whereabouts have been lost over time. Thanks to careful archival research, L'Ombra
della Sera was able to recover the original scores, reworking them into a long and evocative suite.
Segreti nel Nero will be released on double vinyl and single CD, and in a limited deluxe 2LP+CD edition.
