BWR143 SEID - The Magic Handshake 2Lp / Cd

The band prefers to call their music Cosmic Pirate Rock, not necessarily a self-explanatory description. Let's say you combine the Hawkwind-style spacerock with 70's psychedelic groove a la Gong, sprinkled with a solid dose of rock steriods for muscle. Then you're on the trail of the Seid sound. The pirate part of the phrase refers to the joy of sailing all kinds of musical waters, plundering what you like and forging it into your own.
After about one hundred concerts in Norway, Denmark, Sweden, Germany and the Netherlands between 2002 and 2006, the band is ready for conquering new territories with their new album. This is not to be considered a "reunion," there are new songs, a new member, and new visions.
The original members Burt Rocket, Organ Morgan, Janis Lazzaroni and Jürgen Kosmos have recruited Viktor Martin on drums, vocals and electronics.
After a six-year break is the cosmic trondheim rockers and self-described space pirates in Seid back with new album. They choose to feed us with a teaspoon and opens with the song Space Pirate Return. The break has obviously made the band well, even though the band has gained critical acclaim for their previous two full-length albums, the comeback album Magic Handshake their best ever, unless I go completely off the handle because of that.
The quintet plays progressive and groovy psychedelic rock, which is both intricate, demanding and well spread in the legacy of the 70s. By references we find British legends like Arthur Brown and old Pink Floyd. At its most cosmic and dronete can also reminiscent of the now dissolved band We Oslo (No wonder all the time they were also inspired by the already mentioned Arthur Brown).
The highlights on the album is the tough stoner rocker Ölyôk Kok Friebib, the hot and theremin-driven Fire It Up!, And the somewhat straitere and final Sinsemilia Sister, whose calm and hypnotic moods the listener in a dreamy and floating state. The single Decode The Glow where Throndhjem gets vocal assistance of Stina Stjern is also nice.
The first song that comes up, "Decode The Glow", sounds like a classic already, with song contributions from Stina Moltu Marklund (Stina Star), which intricately matches Jørgen Yris (Jürgen Kosmos) more hunting voice. On most of the songs is it under a thick layer of fuzz and lightning-fast transitions. As the signarturlåta "Space Rock Dogma," with clever dream sequence at the end, before showtime again in the direction of outer space. This makes Seid into something more than a straddle Trøndelag rock bands.
